    OTTAWA, ON, June 17, 2021 /CNW/ -The Government of Canada, through Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) and Indigenous Services Canada (ISC), with the help of Indigenous partners has selected recipients for the construction of 12 new shelters across Canada for Indigenous women, children, and 2SLGBTQQIA+ people escaping family violence. The Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, along with the Honourable Marc Miller, Minister of Indigenous Services, announced today over $85 million to build and support the operation of 12 new emergency shelters across Canada over 5 years, as well as an additional $10.2 million annually thereafter.

(TSXV: NXLV) ("NexLiving" or the "Company") announced today that it has entered into an agreement to acquire Village View No. 4 Limited Partnership, whose sole asset is a 47 unit multi-family rental property located at 49 Noel Avenue, Saint John, New Brunswick (the "Noel Property" or "Acquisition"). The purchase price for the Noel Property is $12,750,000, subject to customary adjustments, which will be paid by the issuance of 3,750,000 common shares of NexLiving to the vendors at a price of $0.20 per common share, the assumption of a first mortgage in the amount of approximately $9,400,000 and the balance in cash. The Noel Property is 100% leased and generates a run-rate net operating income of approximately $650,000, which implies a capitalization rate at the time of the acquisition of 5.1%. The mortgage has a 3-year term and a fixed interest rate of 1.95%.

  • Canadian housing starts trended slightly higher in May

    OTTAWA, ON, June 15, 2021 /CNW/ - The trend in housing starts was 280,779 units in May 2021, up slightly from 278,462 units in April 2021, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). This trend measure is a six-month moving average of the monthly seasonally adjusted annual rates (SAAR) of housing starts. "The national trend in housing starts remained elevated in May, registering a slight increase from April," said Bob Dugan, CMHC's chief economist. "In May, higher multi-family SAAR starts offset lower single-detached starts in Canada's urban areas, contributing to the increase in the National trend. However, Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal starts trended lower in May, as these markets continued to moderate from the historical highs recorded in the first quarter of the year."
